The winter months are historically very popular not least because of the favourable weather but also because the Green Fees and offers are particular attractive at this time of year. So what has been grabbing the attention of players this season?
The La Manga Club Golf Resort has remainded the top resort in the Murcia region for 30 years and this winter players can enjoy a Round from at little as 35 euro on the West Course or 50 euro on the North and South Courses. Those offers are available if booked within 21 days of arrival but demand is always high so please book early to avoid disappointment.
At Las Colinas Golf & Country Club just over the border in Alicante, Tee Times are always difficult to acquire, even during the Low Season however if you're quick Green Fee rates start from 38 euro after 1pm or 29 euro for 9 holes after 2pm. Very popular and highly recommended!
Corvera Golf & Country Club officially re-opened its doors this time last year and the Green Fees rates have remainded attractive all year. The condition of the course has improved but having been closed for nearly 3 years, it will take a bit more time. The Greens are excellent and although the Fairways remain a bit firm in places, the rain over the winter months will surely help. However, the rates make this venue pretty good value. Green Fees start from 30 euro but the pick of the offers are 4GF's+2Buggy's for 145 euro.
La Serena Golf Resort has had a great 2013 considering the problems it had with the Greens during 2012. 12 months on and the course is getting very close to the conditions players had become used to 5 or 6 years ago. Reservations have significantly increased and demand for memberships has never been higher. Green Fee Rates start from only 32 euro after 1pm and with a location so close to Murcia San Javier Airport, this is an ideal venue for those trying to get away for a winter break.
Hacienda del Alamo Golf Resort may have lost its status as the longest Golf Course in Spain but it still has the best practice facilities of all the Murcia Golf Resorts. Despite many players thinking this is a difficult venue to find, it is virtually a straight drive all the way from Los Alcazáres. Still don't believe us? From the coast, drive passed Mar Menor Golf Resort (purely as a point of reference!) and keep going straight. Follow this link from Los Alcazáres to the motorway exit for the resort to see what we mean. If you don't fancy the Green Fee rate of 33 euro from 1pm then an ealier Tee Time will cost only 40 euro, better still 4GF's+2Buggy's are 170 euro.
La Peraleja Golf has mixed reviews mainly due to some maintenance issue on the low lying sections of the course. There is no getting away from the fact that it has caused some concern but we have seen improvement since May and to be fair to La Peraleja, the course plays far better than you might think. La Peraleja will always be judged by how well the course played 4 or 5 years ago when the Green were lightening fast but the Green Fees were very high. On balance the rates are very attarctive and although the course is not perfect, the Greens are generally very good. Best of the ofers are Green Fees 30 euro and 4GF's+2Buggy's for just 120 euro!
Further afield, there is Lorca Golf & Spa which has become a favourite with local expats living in the region. Lorca has impressed seasoned golfers as the course is surprisingly technical and undulating, it is by no means a push over! The downside is the location which is further inland than most venues. However, Green Fees are 29 euro and the course is quieter than most. Therefore, if you are looking for a relaxed round of Golf, this venue may be just what you’re looking for.
Roda Golf & Beach Club remains very popular and for many and is one of the first courses players will add to their itinerary. Ideal for groups with a mixed range of Handicaps and located close the motorway, Roda Green Fees start from 35 euro after 1pm. Double up with La Serena if you're looking for 36 holes in one day.
A real surprise during 2013 was Vistabella Golf just over the border in Alicante. As Golfers ourselves, we have been as guilty as most players when it comes to having a slightly less than positive opinion about playing a 9 Hole venue. But Vistabella is 11 Holes, so how does that work? Simply put, Golfers play twice during the Low Season, thats 22 Holes for the price of just 18 holes! For the start of 2014 4GF's+2Buggy's (for 22 Holes) are just 120 euro! It has to be contender for the best overall deal. Is it any good? We think so! It’s as good as any 18 hole venue in terms of quality and layout. Vistabella is a very popular and enjoyable venue for local players.
Finally, some venues will be offering last minute deals on selected dates, stay tuned as we will be posting details as they come in.
Whatever your plans for this winter, be sure to take advantage of any last minute flight sales and enjoy a game of Golf with Club Murcia. The winter sun is worth the trip on its own!
