Swapping Buggy's for Bikes! Starting at The Royal Liverpool GC, Hoylake

Paul from Club Murcia will be swapping his usual Buggy for a Bike in aid of Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research as part of  "Bikeathons Around Britain".

Paul will be helping to raise money by cycling 40 miles during the Wirral Bikeathon on 13th June 2010.

The route around the heart of The Wirral Peninsula is officially 28 miles but in keeping with his Golfing roots, Paul will be starting and ending his journey from The Royal Liverpool Golf Club, Hoylake.

The Royal Liverpool Golf Club, played host to The Open Championships in 2006 and it's scheduled to host the Woman's Open in 2012 with The Open returning once again in 2014.

Paul was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma in 2003 and he will always remain grateful to all the fundraisers, past and present, who have helped raise money for valuable research.

"I think most people are familiar with Leukaemia but Lymphoma is perhaps less familiar to some people. Detection and diagnosis has improved significantly over the last few years and although some might argue that Cancers in general are increasing, I would like to think that they appear to be increasing because of improvements in detection and diagnosis".

Paul added; "Many more people now have access to a range of advanced treatments which would not have been possible 10 or even 5 years ago. Research is the key to improved detection and treatment and charities like Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research play a huge role in making this possible".

In the UK, 28,500 people are diagnosed every year with a blood cancer and Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research is the only UK charity solely dedicated to research into blood cancers, including leukaemia, lymphoma and myeloma. They changed their name of the charity from "Leukaemia Research" to "Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research" to better communicate the breadth of their work and to support more blood cancer patients than ever before.

In their 50th year, Paul is hoping to raise as much as possible for Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research. He will be joined on the Bikeathon by Brian, Phil and Dougie. Paul would like to thank them for joining "Team Club Murcia!"

With your help, each member of the team hopes to raise at least £50, thats £1 for each year of the charity. A modest total of just £200!!
