Well, it finally happened, and more or less on time. The 'back nine' holes at Mar Menor opened this week and I played in beautiful sunshine yesterday, (Saturday)...
The back nine are a series of well guarded greens with three of the holes skirting a large, sandy beached lake.
Some nice rolling and wide fairways, but with more large bunkers, it should be a good test for all handicap categories.
As with all new courses, the edges of fairways need tidying up, there are no distance markers in yet, but even with these and other minor issues, the course is well worth a visit.
The cost is 55 euro a round, which is higher than the other Nicklaus trail courses, but we don't know whether this will come into line when the 'newness' wears off and player numbers settle down.
John Whittle rates this course 7 out 10. Helpful? Click here to submit your review.
