The Nicklaus Golf Trail is made up nine courses all designed by Jack Nicklaus and his team within a 15 mile radius of each other in Murcia. Three courses (El Valle, La Torre, Mar Menor) are already operational and the fourth, Hacienda Riquelme, opens in late Spring. Nicklaus visited Murcia last month to check on progress at Alhama. Two of the courses are “Bear’s Best” – showcasing the best holes from Nicklaus designed courses throughout the world.
“There’s nowhere in Europe where you can check into one hotel or open the front door of your own home and play nine Nicklaus courses all within a 20 minute drive,” says Jose Luis Hernandez, CEO of Polaris World, Europe’s largest developer of leisure based properties.
“As a Nicklaus Golf Trail titleholder you get a fantastic investment that you can either sell or pass on to a family member. You get priority tee times at some of the greatest courses anywhere in the world, and with the climate in Murcia you can enjoy a game of golf in the sunshine 12 months a year.”
The attention turns to the most ambitious part of the project, the construction of three courses at Alhama – and Jack Nicklaus himself visited Murcia last month (March 4th) to oversee progress. Two of the courses are “Bear’s Best” – showcasing the best holes from Nicklaus designed courses throughout the world. The other is called Signature design, every detail of which was laid out and overseen by Jack Nicklaus himself.
“When you realise that over half of the 100 best golf courses in the world are by Nicklaus Design you get some idea of the standards they set” said Jose Luis Hernandez. “We are delighted to welcome Jack back to Murcia so he can see what we’ve achieved in the six months since he was here last and ensure that working together we produce one of the world’s great sporting locations".
Condado de Alhama
Quite simply one of the most attractive, challenging and prestigious courses anywhere in Spain, Condado de Alhama is the personal vision of Jack Nicklaus himself. Jack flew over the area in a helicopter and then covered the entire location in a 4x4 before finalising the layout.
The Signature course features dramatic changes in elevation and will be a severe test for even the most expert golfer. Naturally all the support services including the clubhouse and the retail area will be to the highest international standards.
Condado Signature course will set standards that other golf course developers will struggle to equal – and, remember, this is just one of nine courses on the Nicklaus Golf Trail.
