Earlier in the year, Club Murcia reported on the increasing trend of the "Weekend Golfer", the backpacking, rapid deployment Club Golfer. Are you part of this movement and why are Golf Resorts like Roda making life better for these maverick players?
Club Golfers in the UK and Ireland have always remained loyal members of their own Golf Club but in addition to enjoying their home course, they will often enjoy the occasional weekend away, taking in a different course.
Driving up to three hours, staying over night in order to take in a single round may seem a little tiresome to some golfers but for these "Professional Golf Travelers" this is part of their annual routine.
So how does this relate to Murcia and Roda in particular?
Budget: The cost of traveling, a single nights stay in a Hotel and a round of Golf is hardly cheap whichever way you look at it but players determined to get away have come to realise that the accumulative cost of playing Golf in Murcia can be no more expensive, especially if players shop around for flights and accommodation.
Flights: Stansted to Murcia, depart Saturday 18th October at 07:40 and arrive Murcia San Javier 11:10. Return the following day, Sunday 19th October at 11:45 and arrive back in the UK at 13:25. Cost pp: £80 with RyanAir (Prices checked online 30/09/09 and include all taxes).
Accommodation: One night stay in a Double Room with Breakfast at the Hotel Costa Narejos. Cost pp: £19.50 (based on two people sharing. Prices checked online 30/09/08, including all taxes and service charges).
Green Fees: Cost pp: from £39
Extras: Taxi from Murcia San Javier Airport To Roda Golf, 10€. Roda Golf to Hotel Costa Narejos 10€, finally Taxi from the Hotel Costa Nerajos to Murcia San Javier Airport, again roughly 10€. Total Cost: Under £24. Players local RFEG Insurance £2.40 pp (3€ pp).
Travel Time: The average flight time is 2:15 minutes from the UK and by taking advantage of "Online Check-Ins", players can realistically leave their house and arrive at Roda Golf in 5 hours. Based on our example above, players arriving at Murcia 11:10 can expect to jump into a Taxi and be at Roda for 11:45.
No Baggage: With RyanAir charging £25 for "Sports Equipment", players can leave their Clubs at home. Roda have made it easier for players traveling light by providing Top End Golf Clubs at reasonable prices (pictured above). Players have a choice of PING G10's or Taylormade Burner's. Both brands come complete with branded Tour Bags. Cost per set £32 (40€) but Club Murcia clients can receive an additional discount when booking their Green Fees. These quality Clubs are exclusively available to Club Murcia clients with a discount, from only 20€.
In summary, players can escape to the sun, packing only hand luggage with a change of clothes, a pair of Golf Shoes, shorts, a handful of Tees and Balls. By leaving the UK on a Saturday morning players can arrive at Roda by lunch time. After booking in at the Pro-Shop, players have plenty of time to use the high quality Clubhouse facilities including the Changing Rooms and Lockers.
After an enjoyable round, players can get showered and changed, enjoy a drink in the Clubhouse before heading off to the Hotel and an evening out in Los Narejos/Los Alcázares area.
With no time off work, this weekend of Golf can cost less than you might think and no more than a similar weekend break in the UK and Ireland.
