Last week a couple of members of Club Murcia took a relaxing break at Hotel Costa Narejos in Los Alcázares, Murcia. This 4-star hotel is situated just 100 metres from the Mar Menor Sea, one of the largest natural spas in the world, and also a thriving area for water sports throughout the year.
During our stay at the hotel it was home to the various sportsmen who were taking part in A Toda Vela, a series of regattas that are currently being held on the Mar Menor at Los Alcázares.
Several of these ocean races are at international level, such as the Masterclass Finn World Championship, the Class A European Championship, the Flying Dutchman World Championship, and the L’Equipe European Championship.
The hotel is situated in the Los Narejos district of Los Alcázares, one of the fastest growing tourist areas of the Mar Menor, and boasts one of the best beaches in the area. The warm temperatures throughout the year along with the unique characteristics of the Mar Menor sea, with high levels of salt and rich in magnesium, calcium, sodium, bromide, iodine, and fluorine, allows guests to enjoy bathing, the beach and the fresh air in both winter and summer seasons. The Mar Menor's therapeutic properties, makes it ideal for the treatment of arthritis, rheumatism, and helps to eliminate toxins, to stimulate blood circulation, to relax muscles and to alleviate stress.
The beaches of Los Alcázares stretch for 9 km's and there is a pleasant promenade along the Murcian coast which provides visitors with an ideal place for a stroll. During our stay the Spanish equivalent of the Red Arrows, the Patrulla Aguilas, were practising their maneuvers in the skies above. They are based at San Javier air base and are often seen looping the loop and providing the locals with a free air display.
Beside the hotel is another short promenade that takes you directly to the beach, and also links to the towns commercial / shopping promenade with a range of shops, boutiques, supermarkets, restaurants, bars, hairdressers etc. The local nightlife offers something for everyone, Indian and Chinese food, Irish bars, Spanish bars, English pubs, and bistros.
The hotel itself has been designed to provide the best enjoyment and comfort for its guests. Its polite and friendly young staff members are there to ensure that all requirements are attended to in a courteous and helpful manner. The hotel complex has been carefully designed to incorporate spacious lounges, meeting and conference rooms and there is a coffee shop where entertainment takes place most evenings.
The hotel offers a wide range of facilities for families, couples and individuals visiting the area. Whether you're a golfer, a wind surfer, or someone who wants to spend a relaxing break on the Spanish coast, you will find this hotel a real pleasure. There are adult and children’s swimming pools and an outside jacuzzi. These facilities are all free to the hotel guests, including free use of the hotel's gym. Within the hotel restaurant you will find an extensive and varied buffet service, all made from fresh produce. During the summer holidays the restaurant offers a special buffet for children, and staff are on hand to entertain and help children at mealtimes. Another facility the hotel offers are two conference rooms which seat 70 people, and include a wi-fi system and screens.
A perfect place to unwind and meet people is in the cafe which has views to the swimming pool, and serves “tapas”, hot baguettes, pastries and has a well stocked bar. Within the cafe there is a stage for shows and evening entertainment and also an Internet zone (50 cents for 8 minutes internet connection).
Next to the cafe is a large saloon with comfortable armchairs and a television, and a tropical lounge area with wicker armchairs overlooking the swimming-pool. The Reception area also has a wi-fi zone which looks out to the swimming pool area. Beside the wi-fi lounge are the 2 glass elevators and the 24 hour reception desk.
The hotel walls are decorated by scenes of Los Alcázares, painted exclusively for the hotel by Alonso Martinez, one of the most famous designers of the Murcia region.
The hotel has 193 rooms to choose from, there are 58 family rooms which include a lounge and convertible bed and there is also one luxury suite and five spacious junior suites. All rooms are fully equipped with an en-suite bathroom, hair-dryer, heating and air-conditioning, TV LCD with satellite channels; safe deposit box, and refrigerator. The rooms are very modern and beautifully furnished, and most rooms come with a terrace with stunning views across the Mar Menor
The hotel also has a spa with two jacuzzis, a Finnish sauna, Turkish bath, massage rooms and health and beauty treatments. The hotel has an offer on at the moment of 2 hours in the Spa plus a massage for 38 euros. Within the spa there are also 3 circular showers, each providing a different experience: one has the choice of an ice drench or a tropical shower, another has a shower that blasts you with water from all directions and the final one pours water over you and feels like you are having a shoulder massage.
We would recommend this hotel to anyone visiting the Murcia region, as it is by far one of the best hotels in the area and the level of service is second to none. It's ideal for visiting golfers due to it's close proximity to Roda Golf and La Serena Golf which are both only 5 minutes away, as is the airport at San Javier. The C3319 (Golfers Alley) is a only a short drive away, where you will find two of Polaris Worlds new golf resorts: La Torre and El Valle, and Mosa Trajectum with a choice of three 9 hole courses. The Mar Menor Golf Resort is in neighbouring Torre Pacheco and La Manga can be reached within 30 minutes. Also on your doorstep is the fantastic Murcian coastline, the Mar Menor and it's choice of beautiful towns and cities.
