Armed with branded Golf Caps, Tee's, course guides, brochures, stacks of literature, and an internet connection, the guys on the Club Murcia stand set about introducing Murcia to anyone and everyone on the opening day of the UK Golf Show.
Hundreds of golfers wandering around the show were drawn to the stand, and the images of Murcia. The doors had been open for less than half an hour and we were already surrounded by keen golfers wanting to know more about Murcia. "Where is it?", asked one chap, "Spain", "Spain? mmm, is that where Jack Nicklaus is building all of those golf courses?", "Yup, that's the place!"
A relatively easy introduction for some of our visitors, as it would appear that Jack has done some the hard work for us. All joking aside though, most of the people that we spoke to had already heard of Murcia and knew that Murcia is the new golfing destination. And there was no shortage of visitors eager to find out more. By 2009 it is expected that Murcia will boast some 50 golf courses, and with Club Murcia already having details on 41 of these courses, there was a lot to talk about.
The UK Golf Show was extremely busy on it's opening day, which was a surprise, as the opening Friday is normally relatively quiet compared to the masses that will turn up over the weekend. Club Murcia are looking forward to welcoming more visitors onto our stand over the weekend, with tens of thousands more golfers expected to make their way to Birmingham's NEC.
Legendary footballers and keen golfers David Seaman and Ian Wright were there in the morning, where they tested their golfing skills on the show’s indoor driving range. TheCaddie managed to slip away from the stand and snap a picture of Ian Wright - looking every inch the golfer. Equally impressive was trickshot maestro David Edwards, who set a new world record teeing off 309 balls in three minutes - with a club in each hand!
We also visited the Longest Drive Competition, where we have sponsored the winning prize, which is a 7 night break in a private villa with green fees to play on the longest golf course in Spain, at Hacienda del Alamo.
Club Murcia were busy handing out La Serena golf caps and course guides, and Hacienda del Alamo course guides and brochures. Visitors to our stand were also given Club Murcia branded golf caps and tee's, and were able to navigate around our website and talk about all of the new and exciting events, courses, and opportunities that are happening in Murcia. Most of our visitors were interested in knowing which courses were open to play now and a number of investors were keen to know what was on the horizon. Our Golf Property Specialist was on hand to explain all of the exciting investment opportunities in the region, and he will be joined tomorrow by Jesus Carrillo, the Sales Manager from La Serena Golf & Beach Resort.
Meanwhile, back in Murcia, Elaine and Nick were busy collating all of the entries that have been flooding in to win the 4 green fees at La Serena. With some individuals entering up to 10 times each, they certainly had their work cut out.
So what or who are Club Murcia? Club Murcia is an online resource which actively promotes the region of Murcia to international visitors and golfers. It caps an exciting period for Club Murcia, which started a little over 6 months ago after several golfers attended the Murcia Tourism and Leisure Fair at Torre Pacheco, Murcia. The Fair was billed as the ideal event for golfers in the area. In reality, there were no golf representatives at the exhibition, leaving golfers somewhat disappointed. The omission of Golf at such a high profile Leisure Exhibition came as a huge surprise to the event sponsors, the Murcia Tourist Board and this proved to be the catalyst to start Club Murcia.
Spanish Golf Courses already have an excellent reputation internationally and Club Murcia´s aim is to develop this reputation further. We provide visitors with a positive image of Murcia by familiarising golfers with the new and existing courses across the region. The website has many interesting features to tempt golfers to the region not least, details of the local golf events and news. Club Murcia was designed to be a community website from the very beginning, allowing readers to participate and contribute to the site content. It was an important concept which allows Club Murcia to provide a community feel for their readers. Individual golfers, Golf Clubs and Golf Society’s can write and submit their own news, articles, events and course reviews and participate in a Murcia Golfers Forum.
Potential investors have also taken an interest in Club Murcia as they can see first hand the development of golf within the region and expansion of the local golf industry. With the help of Club Murcia, potential property investors can also request details on all the new Golf Resorts across the region as Club Murcia has partnerships through respected Estate Agents.
Club Murcia is free to join and is a must for golfers living in the region or visiting Murcia from the UK and Ireland. With the recent increase in interest, Club Murcia has seen a significant jump in traffic to the site. Within the last 6 months the site has gained recognition as the single most useful website for golfers searching for information about Golf in Murcia and its independence means we are now trusted as a valuable resource to many golf related organisations.
