There are some obvious advantages to playing Golf in Spain but as some die hard golfers have discovered, there is much more to the Murcia region than the annual Society Golf Tour. With 20 routes into Murcia San Javier Airport, from the UK & Ireland, you can literally arrive at some courses within 4 to 5 hours of stepping out of your own front door.
Last Call, San Javier! With plenty of flights available, you can take advantage of last minute Check-In and Priority Boarding and arrive in plenty of time to play the same afternoon. There’s even time to wind down in the Clubhouse.
Early morning flights are available daily before 8:30am from, BMI via both Birmingham and Cardiff, RyanAir via Stansted, EasyJet via Bristol and London Gatwick, and Jet2 via Belfast, Blackpool, Edinburgh and Newcastle.
Don´t forget your toothbrush! If you can, grab a lift to the airport and on arrival in Spain, take a Taxi from Murcia San Javier Airport to one of the nearest Golf Courses. You can travel light and even take advantage of a set of “Hire Clubs”, a quick change in the new Clubhouse and time to hit the Golf Course, what could be easier? Well ... there’s still a challenging Golf Course to overcome!
As unlikely as it may sound, there is actually a hardcore of Golf Junkies who would stop at nothing to pack only hand luggage and head off for a two day Golf trip. Armed with a pair of Golf Shorts, Soft Spikes, Glove, a handful of Tees and Balls from the boot of the car and if they stop to think long enough, a change of clothes.
These Golfers are not Golf Professionals but Professional Golf Traveller’s and they don’t lose a second, even making the most of the excellent Changing Room facilities in the Clubhouses before they hit the town.
So is this form of Speed Travelling ideal for everyone? City Breaks and Weekend breaks are as popular as ever and combined with a couple of rounds of Golf, they are a viable alternative for regular Golfers.
Club Golfers will often play away from their own Golf Club to take in a new course or just simply to have a bit of banter. With travelling times shorter than you might think and so many facilities on the doorstep, a short break to Murcia is a Golfers Paradise!
What to expect? On arriving at Murcia San Javier, you will find yourself only a few minutes from the Beaches of the Mar Menor, with the Airport itself hugging the shoreline. There are several Hotels within 15 minutes of the Airport which can easily be reached via Taxi and there are 10 Golf Courses and Resorts within 30 minutes. Most have exceptional private accommodation, some with their own 5* Hotel.
The days are long too, with Tee Times starting from 8am and play still possible until 9pm during the summer months. With temperatures peaking in July and August, you can choose an early morning Tee Time or take advantage of a Twilight deal and enjoy your round after 4pm.
What to do besides playing Golf? For many that might include a day on the local beach or an afternoon by the Pool. For those of you looking to be a little more adventurous, there are Thermal Spas, Sailing, Potholing, Horse-riding, White Water Rafting, Canoeing, Scuba Diving, Wake Boarding, Kite Surfing, Wind Surfing, Paragliding, Deep Sea Diving, Mountainbiking, even Mountain Climbing … the list goes on!
For those seeking a slower pace, there are the cities of Cartagena, Murcia, Caravaca de la Cruz, Lorca, and Jumilla. Plus the Coastal towns of Cabo de Palo, Los Alcazares, Santiago de la Ribera and Los Narejos. All with their own unique character and charm.
Professional Travellers Welcome. Whether it’s your Annual Club Tour, your Society’s Great Escape or simply 2 days off work, discover the Murcia region this summer and the golf that lays in wait.
