SLUITER Wins Q-SCHOOL 2nd Stage at Las Colinas & Country Club

Tim Sluiter secures victory as 21 qualify to the next stage at the stunning Spanish golf facility recently named as one of Europe’s top 100 courses.

Proceedings drew to a close at the stunning Las Colinas Golf & Country Club, one of Spain’s grandest leisure facilities, with Dutchman Tim Sluiter claiming an impressive victory. Sluiter carried a two shot lead into the final day after a stunning 66 on day 3; having carded four impressive sub seventy rounds the Dutchman finished at 16 under par. This left him 2 shots ahead of Denmark’s Morten Orum Madsen who put up a tough fight, but just fell short. Throughout the tournament the lead changed hands many times but a group of players were in with a sniff all week, most notably Englishman Benn Barham who continued his remarkable rehabilitation from kidney cancer with another consistent display on the final day and as thrived on the excellent course conditions in the Spanish sun.

The top 21 players have qualified to the next stage. Of those who missed out were a couple of big names including 1993 Ryder Cup star Peter Baker and 2009 Walker Cup player Dale Whitnell who painfully fell short of qualifying by one shot. It was a wide open event with a large range of scores with Las Colinas Golf & Country Club proving a very fair test for the players, punished poor play, but rewarded accurate attacking golf.

Byeong-Hun AN was amongst the qualifiers and was one of many who were extremely complementary about Las Colinas Golf & Country Club as a host venue and a golf course. "I loved the golf course. It played longer than it´s yardage due to the long par 5´s and tough par 3´s. There are some birdie opportunities on the shorter par 4´s but you can see how good a test it is due to the high qualifying scores. Also the course got tougher and the greens faster as the week went on".

Englishman Matt Dearden was also incredibly impressed and commented, "It is a great venue, with very friendly staff, with a great golf course and facilities. Certainly one of the best golf courses I have played in Spain and it will surely only get better as it matures in to a top championship golf course".
